One-Stop Guide to Our Calida Casa

Thank you for your interest in our apartment on the Mar Menor. We believe it is one of the best-presented, best-located apartments in a modern, secure, gated community in Los Alcazares. It is perfect for any family, couple or small group looking for a peaceful and relaxing beach holiday, with cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, golden sandy beaches, and shallow, warm and calm seas, all within walking distance. It is also ideal for anyone looking for warm weather golf, cycling and walking all year round. It is not suitable for groups looking for all-night nightclubs or lots of bars. Los Alcazares is a traditional Spanish town, a section of which has been developed with a lovely pedestrianised parade of modern, international cafes, bars and restaurants, most of which are open all year round.

About our apartment

It is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom penthouse apartment right at the front of the Puerto Marina gated community. It is south-east facing and has sea views from the Juliet balconies in both bedrooms, and from the large, south-facing terrace, which keeps the sun on it all day. It also has panoramic views from our private rooftop solarium, which is beautifully furnished with easy chairs and sunbeds. The fully air-conditioned apartment comprises:

• A master double-bedroom with ceiling fan
• A second bedroom with twin beds which can combine to form a double bed, and ceiling fan
• Modern bathroom with shower enclosure
• Modern kitchen with large fridge/freezer, hob, oven, microwave and dishwasher
• Living room with sofa bed, 42″ Smart TV and BluRay DVD player, and a good selection of English TV channels
• We offer our guests free and unlimited Wi-Fi Internet
• There is additionally a washing machine in a room off the rooftop solarium
• We have an allocated parking space in a secure, underground car park

About Puerto Marina

Puerto Marina is the most recently-built, secure gated community in Los Alcazares. It is beautifully maintained and pushchair/wheelchair-accessible throughout. The community features:

• Three swimming pools, each with adjacent shallow children’s pool
• A high level of security – key access is required to enter through the community’s perimeter gates, as well as to each block of apartments
• In an additional child-friendly security measure, key access is needed to exit the perimeter gates
• Disabled access to the apartment block, and a lift to our third-floor apartment
• Security guard in high season

Weather

Getting here

Our apartment is around 30 minutes from the new Murcia airport at Corvera, which opened in January 2019. Alternatively, it is around a 50-minute transfer from Alicante.

About the local area

Our apartment is perfectly-located for all the essential ingredients of a beach holiday. Everything is within a 15-minute walk on flat terrain so a car is not needed. Within a 5-minute walk are Lidl, Consum and Mercadona supermarkets and a pedestrianised parade of cafes, restaurants, bars and local shops. The restaurant selection is high quality but well-priced and includes Chinese, Indian, Italian, Bistro-style, Mexican, American, traditional Spanish and English foods (there is one fish and chip shop and a pasty shop)! There is a wide choice for vegetarians. The Spanish tapas are wonderful.

Within a 10-15 minute walk, at the end of the parade, is an amazing stretch of beach with fine golden sand and the shallow, calm sea water of the Mar Menor lagoon. This is reputed to be up to 5C warmer than the Mediterranean Sea. It is safe for toddlers and its shallow depth means it is home to a wide range of water sports in the summer months. The beach stretches for miles and is flanked by a 4-mile long beachfront promenade. There are small beach bars/cafes and children’s playgrounds at regular intervals. If you walk south along the promenade for a mile or so, you will come to the Spanish part of Los Alcazares.

Getting around

If you want to explore further afield, you may be interested in some of the following:

• Golf – there is a wide selection of high-quality golf courses nearby including Roda, Mar Menor and La Serena golf resorts in Los Alcazares itself. The Golf 525 shop, a 5-minute walk from our apartment, will book tee times at 21 local courses and promises “the cheapest green fees”
• There is also Golf Delux – the “biggest artificial grass adventure golf course in continental Europe”!
• Kitesurfing – surf schools along the beach in Los Alcazares through the summer months. The main one is the Spinosa centre, around a 10-minute drive or 40-minute walk.
• Cycling – there are a number of nearby cycle hire shops, whether you want to take a leisurely ride along the beachfront promenade or get some warm weather training in.
• Boat trips to La Manga – day trips are available from Los Alcazares in high season, and from San Javier/Santiago de la Ribera (around 10 minutes away by car) at other times
• A wide range of other beaches up and down the Costa Calida and southern Costa Blanca
• The beautiful cities of Cartagena (20 minutes away) or Murcia (40 minutes)
• Decent range of shops and a ten-screen cinema at the Dos Mares shopping centre (10 minutes)
• Modern shopping centres at Espacio Meditteraneo (25 minutes away, near Cartagena) and La Zenia Boulevard, (a similar distance towards Torrevieja).
• Go Karts Mar Menor (10 minutes, next to Murcia/San Javier airport)
• Terra Natura wildlife and water park (40 minutes), just past Murcia
• Aquapolis water park in Torrevieja (40 minutes)

Notes on prices: Usual minimum stay is 7 nights. Prices for stays not in whole weeks (eg. 10 nights) upon request. All bookings require a deposit of £150 to secure the booking. This will not normally be refundable. Balance of booking fees is due six weeks before arrival date. Additionally required at this time is a £150 damage deposit which will be refunded in full after departure unless required to fund damages, lost keys or excess cleaning. Prices quoted above are fully inclusive and include cleaning, bath and hand towels, use of internet and a safe. The only exceptions which incur additional costs are:

• Air conditioning is on a meter (€10 per week provided free). Additional credit may be purchased during your stay. We have installed the meter reluctantly due to the high costs of running air conditioning and is only a contribution to the actual electricity costs. We have installed ceiling fans in both bedrooms to help reduce the need for air conditioning use.
• Our property managers in Los Alcazares are an English couple who can provide additional services upon request, such as airport pick-ups and drop-offs.
